WATER FOR LIFE PROJECT

CAMT-KENYA has a call to empower communities for good living.

Countless villages across Africa do not have ready access to water, and the inhabitants often have to walk many miles just to find water. Even then it may not be clean, and many people are sick and dying as a result. In response, and as an integral part of our mission to serve the people of kenya, we are engaging partners to stand with us  to support the area of great need.

WATER SCARCITY:

  • CAMT-KENYA has a dream to participate in reducing the problem of water in Mbeere, Maasai land and other parts of the country. Most of the people in our community walk 5-7KMS to look for water at the nearby rivers. The rivers in Mbeere are Tana, Thuci, Ena and Thiba which are more than 20KM apart.
  • Our dream is to partner with friends all over the world to help provide water tanks and dig out some wells for our people to tap water during rainy season.
  • Children and Youth are the most hit by this problem because they are asked by parents to go for water. There is also risk in the rivers because a number of children have been killed by crocodiles.

Water for life:

In countless villages in the African bush, there is little or no access to clean drinking water. Often getting to the nearest water source requires the villagers to walk several miles, followed by a return trip. Most villagers carry heavy bucket or plastic drum filled with water on their heads. Even then, that water may not be clean – it may come from lakes, ponds or rivers that are shared with animals or from hand dug wells that might be located near village latrines. Such water is often contaminated and can cause sickness.

With water being one of the absolute necessities of life, Iris is committed to helping bring clean water to as many needy villages as possible

Once the well’s hand pump has been tested and is fully operational, the well is handed over as a gift to the village, and its Village Water Committee takes responsibility for ongoing servicing and maintenance of the well and the hand pump.

Wherever possible, there is a well dedication ceremony and an evangelistic outreach at which we thank the Lord for the provision of water to the village, and most importantly bring the Good News of the Living Water, our Lord Jesus Christ, to the villagers. CAMT-KENYA Prayer Centers are usually planted in these villages.

How much does a bore hole cost?

CAMT-KENYA relies on people of good will to drill. Sometimes the water found may be of poor quality, for example it may be very brackish, or in some cases the bore may even prove to be dry. In such cases we may have to drill more than one bore in different locations of a village. When preliminary survey work, geophysical analyses and reports, the drilling and all associated operating and maintenance costs, construction and testing the pump system, it costs, on average, about US $12,500 per completed well.

Is it too late to help?

Never!, There are still literally hundreds of villages in mbeere community alone in need of wells. Indeed, there is a great enough need to keep us busy for many years.

What if I can’t pay the full cost of one well?

Every donation helps, the need is great, and we rely on the generosity of donors to be able to continue drilling. Donations of any size are very welcome and appreciated.
